We love this new product and just know you will too! Punta Arenas is a city near the tip of Chile's southernmost Patagonia region. Located on the Strait of Magellan, which connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, it's often used as base for excursions to the surrounding wilderness and Antarctica. This area produces some lovely, fine wool that we are delighted to have found.
It seems that sheep were brought to the Straits of Magellan by Chilean governor Diego Dublé Almeyda in 1876, who travelled specifically for that purpose to Europe. During the last three decades, specific strains of Dohne Merino have been introduced successfully in the region, along with other Merino lines, which resulted in the fineness of this wool.
