This is a beautifully hand dyed wool top ~ ready to spin!

About this fiber: This fiber is Superwash Cheviot Wool Top. One of the 'whitest' of the natural white breeds making for a perfect canvas for beautiful multiple colors in any colorway. It is not too crimpy and is quite resilient, which makes this Cheviot Superwash wool suitable for blending easily with other fibers. The resilience of this fiber makes this wool very versatile and is used in many craft projects in addition to hand spinning.  This fiber is NOT for felting projects. Cheviot fleece varies in quality from medium to coarse. The diameter is 30-35 microns, and the length is on average 80-100mm. Cheviot is known for being "the hand spinners choice" for beginning spinners. As you begin to learn about fiber and how to handle it, Superwash is a great choice to learn to spin on. It is more forgiving being Cheviot, and in addition it is Superwash too!
What is Superwash Fiber you may ask? Superwash is an additional plus factor as it is a non-felting fiber!! Superwash wool is any wool fiber that has been chemically treated to make it machine washable and (usually) dryable. Since the fiber has been modified, the wool will NOT felt. Superwash is smoother than regular wool because the chemical process removes the cuticles, or scales. The treated wool fiber is then smoother and moves more freely since it no longer has scales to restrict it. The amount of movement and how smooth will depend on the actual wool breed and micron count. Overall, Superwash is loved by spinners for being non shrinking for clothing projects, staying smoother overtime due to its non-felting aspect, tending to feel softer than regular wool, and some have a shiner look once spun up compared to regular wool of same breeds.
Weight of fiber: 4 oz
Washing instructions for all hand dyed wool: Hand Wash cold Lay flat to dry. Please note that every effort has been made to exhaust all dye from hand dyed fiber. Computer monitors may vary with shades and tones of colors. I take photos in natural light to show the closest color tones possible.
