Developed in New Zealand, the Perendale are the offspring of Romney ewes and Border Cheviot rams. The Perendale produces soft and fine fleece as a longwool breed. The fleece has a fine crimp, is fairly lofty, and is moderately lustrous.
The Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook (Robson and Ekarius, 2011) describes Perendale fiber as follows: “Perendale is a bouncy wool, which will spin up with a spring to it. The fiber tends to capture air and bounce, so even full worsted spinning will give you loft in the finished yarn.”
