Beautifully dyed ~ ready to spin! Punta Arenas sits near the southern tip of Chile’s Patagonia, perched along the storied Strait of Magellan where the Atlantic and Pacific meet. Long used as a gateway for exploring the wild Patagonian landscape and even Antarctica, this region is also home to exceptionally fine, beautiful wool — a treasure we’re delighted to have sourced.

It seems that sheep were brought to the Straits of Magellan by Chilean governor Diego Dublé Almeyda in 1876, who travelled specifically for that purpose to Europe. During the last three decades, specific strains of Dohne Merino have been introduced successfully in the region, along with other Merino lines, which resulted in the fineness of this wool.
