The Southdown sheep are one of England’s oldest native breeds, originating in the South Downs of Sussex. Their fleece is known for being dense, resilient, and beautifully crimped, producing a wool with excellent bounce and elasticity. Southdown wool typically has a naturally bright white fleece.
The Southdown has a pleasant, woolly character and is an excellent choice for handspinning and particularly well suited to creating springy, durable yarns with plenty of body and stitch definition. Its natural resilience makes it a wonderful fiber for projects where structure and wearability are important.
