This was a special purchase from the mill, which will not be available long term. We love snapping up these unusual blends, we are a great fan of trying something new! What is listed here is all we have right now undyed.

Texel & Lleyn are both considered Medium fleeces. Not quite as fine as downland breeds, fleeces classified as ‘medium’ have a micron count of between 31-35 and represent some of the most versatile wools in the British clip. Contains some kemp from the Blackface.

Lleyn sheep are a hardy, yet soft breed of wool native to the Lleyn Peninsula, a headland on the North West coast of Wales, where it is said to have been imported by a wealthy landlord during the 19th century to improve local Welsh sheep. The Lleyn has become extremely popular as a commercial breeding ewe, renowned for its easy management. Medium-sized, hornless, with white face and head and without wool on the ears or legs below the hock; black nose and sometimes a black spot on the ear. White wool of a good length.

The Texel sheep originated early in the nineteenth century from the island of Texel, the largest of the Wadden Islands off the north coast of the Netherlands. The exact origin of the breed is unknown although it is thought to be a cross of multiple English breeds. With wonderful dispositions, docile, gentle temperaments, they are a number one choice for many sheep breeders. They are now also raised in the U.S., although this particular wool is from the UK.

Mountain Blackface are said to go back to the 12th century when monks used their wool for clothing and exporting to Europe. A horned, black-faced sheep with black and white markings on both legs and feet. There will be some kemp from the Blackface in this blend. Primarily Scottish Highlands and hills of North East England but occurs throughout the UK
